The Georgian Association in the USA launched a new volunteer initiative in 2026 – Georgian Student Network for Georgian and Georgian-American students studying in the United States! This project aims to build a connected, supportive, and active Georgian community across U.S. campuses, creating opportunities to promote Georgian culture, strengthen connections between young Georgians and Georgian-Americans, and contribute more actively to the Georgian diaspora in the USA.

In 2026, the student network hosted the Georgian Cultural Week (April 9 – 14). Georgian Cultural Week was a coordinated, multi-campus initiative in which student volunteers organized events on their respective campuses between April 9 and April 14, 2026. The initiative aimed to introduce Georgian culture while drawing attention to two significant dates: April 9, which marks both the violent suppression of protests in 1989 and Georgia’s Independence Restoration Day, and April 14, Georgian Language Day.
The events were developed through advance collaboration among volunteers, who coordinated their efforts and selected films from a shared list. This structure allowed for consistency across campuses and also fostering connections among volunteers. Each event centered on a film screening and included a brief introductory remark by the student organizer to provide historical context on April 9 and April 14, followed by a discussion.
Five screenings took place at Bryn Mawr College, the University of Florida, Gettysburg College, Amherst College, and Mount Holyoke College. Screened films included Blue Mountains, Eccentrics, and And Then We Danced. The screening at Bryn Mawr also included a Georgian appetizer. Together, these events introduced Georgian culture to diverse campus audiences while
maintaining a coordinated format across institutions.
